Showcasing beautiful and realistic faux florals from Factory Direct Craft I’m often guilty of not sharing “inside” information about my design process. Like many artists, I keep my inspiration close to the vest. I also get so caught up in creating while working on projects that sharing the behind-the-scenes stuff is not even on my radar! So today I thought I’d pull back the curtain—just a tad—to give you a sneak peek into what inspires me and the supplies that help me realize my finished pieces. I recently became an affiliate of Factory Direct Craft (FDC), and am stoked to start sharing some of the supplies I have been using for many years. FDC has a wide selection of unique fabric florals and faux greenery, and I love that this selection allows me to create whimsical floral designs for my online shop. The crafty people among you may already follow me on my social media platforms (if not there are convenient icons at the end of this post for you to click…hint, hint!) and may have seen my finished faux floral designs. In the spirit of sharing, this article will highlight some of the FDC florals I have used in my favorite spring and summer floral designs and candle holders. So let’s get to it! Purple, cream, and mauve roses candle holder The soft-hued trio of artificial rose stems reminds me of a layered chiffon dress worn by a fairy princess! These fabric roses in pale purple, mauve, and cream have an unmistakably feminine feel, which is exactly what I needed to bring my vision to life. The vision was to create a fairy-inspired candle holder for a table centerpiece for a spring or summer wedding. Fairy Forest & Fairy Bush candle holders The “dancing daisies” worked perfectly in my fairy-themed candle holder designs. For the first candle holder, three fairy towers (for three fairy sisters) are nestled in a patch of delicate daisies, purple cherry blossoms, and miniature pink roses. A second fairy-themed whimsical candle holder features a lush cluster of dainty daisies accented with delicate Kate Roses. This fairy prefers to live alone, although she welcomes the occasional visitor! Coral roses candle holder The description of the miniature roses calls the color “cream”, but I find it to be more of a soft peach or coral. Nonetheless, these tiny roses became the focal point for another of my spring/summer faux floral candle holder designs for a garden party or wedding table. The pale miniature roses are accented with the occasional red or pink rose to add depth and variation to the floral design. White roses candle holder Can you believe I found this glass bowl with blue-green stripes at a local thrift shop?! The design of this thrift store find makes a strong statement on its own so I opted for simple white roses forming an elegant ring around the base. The rose stems are from a gorgeous white rose garland from FDC which I cut into the desired stems to make the faux floral candle holder ring. Summer lantern candle holder This handcrafted wood candle holder (made by hand with basswood) utilizes florals and greenery from a couple of merchants, but my favorite is the yellow ranunculus from FDC. This particular flower seems to be no longer available, but there is a similar style yellow ranunculus that could be easily substituted. The yellow flower adds a pop of sunny summer color to the white flowers. This design is a charming centerpiece on a summer tablescape for dinner parties or weddings. Champagne-inspired faux floral designs On one of my many thrift store shopping sprees, I found several one-off glass stemware pieces that I then filled with glass beads and resin to mimic the look of champagne. The rest of the design fell into place with the addition of faux greenery and flowers such as the pink and white ranunculus stems. The glassware, greenery, and faux florals all sit inside a handcrafted wood tray with a Celtic knot border for a touch of whimsy. I made four trays with slightly different styles of glassware that would be perfect for a wedding table or even as a gift! Astilbe and bellflower candle holder This floral design is still a work in progress (as of the writing of this blog post) but I thought I’d share it because I love the contrast between the deep purple bellflowers and the pale yellow astilbe. The vision for this piece is a garden patch by the side of a stream. I’m still working on the finishing touches but the final design will be magical! Bonus—Anemone stems I haven’t used this flower in a floral design (yet) but I thought I’d share it with you because anemones are my favorite flower! And this white anemone from FDC is simply gorgeous! If you visit my home you will find it stuffed into faux floral arrangements or tucked into a vignette almost any time of year. I’ve even tucked a few into my Christmas tree one year! Related blogs you may want to read:
