DI’S STUDIO DESIGNS MONTHLY NEWS

Fairy Houses & Gardens book

Do you or someone you know have a fascination with fairy houses and gardens? I have a few copies of the paperback book Magical Fairy Homes & Gardens by authors Ashley Rooney and Barbara Purchia available in my online shop. There are only a few copies left so don’t wait to get your copy!

Di’s Studio Designs has been featured in Rent. online magazine!

I was invited to contribute to a fun, informative home decor article for those interested in adding a bit of childhood whimsy to their rooms. Here's an excerpt:

“Connecting with your inner child is about rediscovering the joy, wonder, and creativity that may have been tucked away over the years. What better way to channel this than through your home decor?

Whether you’re personalizing a rental home in New Orleans, decorating an apartment in Raleigh, NC, or creating your dream home in Chattanooga, TN, this guide will help you embrace your inner child through decor. With expert tips and playful ideas, you’ll discover how to design a space that feels safe, joyful, and uniquely yours.”

It has taken me a LONNNGGG time to finish these projects, but two new enchanting fairy houses are FINALLY listed in my shop! These were my most ambitious fairy house projects thus far!

The first fairy house is a two-story half-timbered A-frame construction with a stone-clad bottom floor. This medieval fairytale house comes alive with touches of whimsy, with jewel-toned stained-glass window panes and handcrafted planters overflowing with miniature roses.

Each house is meticulously handcrafted with basswood, birchwood, balsa, and stone veneers and decorated with nature-inspired ivy and faux florals.

The second fairytale-inspired creation is an enchanted castle tower with creeping faux ivy vines and miniature white and yellow daisies. This fairy-tale fortress features a stone-clad veneer with white cornerstones, medieval arched windows, and a pyramidal shingled roof. It’s a proper castle for your resident fairy queen or king!

Decorating tip: Light up these fairy houses with LED candles or fairy strands to create a warm, magical glow in the evenings!

New blog posts…

It’s the season of the cat! If you love curling up with your favorite fairy tale and a feline friend (or two), I have a new blog post for you!

Explore the complex role cats play in folklore and fairy tales, how the clever cat cunningly outwits friend and foe alike, and the role cats play as helpers of the underdog and downtrodden in many of our favorite stories.

Grab your feline companion and read the full post here.

Ever wonder about the meanings of flowers? I’m kicking off a series on flowers, exploring their meanings and symbolism in folklore and fairy tales.

The first flower we will explore is the common—and often overlooked—daisy. The daisy was revered by ancient cultures and featured in mythology through association with gods and goddesses. This adoration continues in medieval folklore, Shakespearean stories, and folk fairy tales.

Visit the blog page for the full article, and let’s dive into the magical symbolism of this delicate little flower!

Need more blog material to read?

If you like fairy-inspired articles and musings about folklore, fairytales, and Celtic mythology, I have just the page for you! Since I love to research in-depth on these topics—and the topics don’t always vibe with my Di’s Studio Designs blog material—I created a Substack site under my pseudonym, The Celtic Lilly. Here you can read my general posts and see a different side of what makes me tick!
Celtic art drawing tutorials!

I’ve been hard at work finishing the fairy houses, but I managed to carve out time for a few new Celtic art tutorials. I created a four-part series on how to draw a circular border with a spiral knot design. Check out these and more tutorials in my latest blogs, YouTube videos, and Patreon videos!

Work in progress projects...

A new art project is on the way! It’s the month of October, and I’m celebrating with a cat theme. This new art piece features a Celtic-inspired moon with a stylized cat having a little stretch.

The sketch stage is done, and the drawing is ready to be transferred to a round wooden plaque that has been prepped with circular guidelines to center the drawing.

Stay tuned for a new YouTube video for this project coming soon!

After completing the latest fairy houses—which were huge projects—I am looking forward to working on something a little more manageable!

I created two new designs for cozy, whimsical woodland huts that will look right at home in your favorite fairy tale. Each hut will be unique, with as many details as I can dream up to make them feel magical and enchanting!

I’ll be rolling out the finished designs in a few weeks. Keep an eye on my YouTube and blog pages for progress updates!

Save money on Halloween decorations by giving an old piece of decor a makeover! The name of the game this year is saving money any way you can, so here’s a quick, inexpensive DIY project, recycling old wooden pumpkin plaques. All you need for this project is craft paint!

See the full project and get inspired in my latest DIY craft video here.

New small whimsical wood plaques with floral designs and inspirational words, inspired by the Art Nouveau style, are now listed in my shop.
